Norwalk firefighters were called to the Merritt Parkway between northbound exits 38 to 40 for the multiple-car crash just after noon. Officials said one truck was fully engulfed in flames when responders arrived with two other cars sustaining damage in the blaze.

Firefighters put out the flames, but the heat from the fire damaged the highway's guardrails, requiring officials to temporarily shut down a portion of the parkway to make repairs, the Norwalk Fire Department said.

Officials reopened the parkway after clearing the scene.

Two people suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries, and paramedics took them to an area hospital for treatment, the Norwalk Fire Department said.

Connecticut State Police are investigating the crash.
